Warranty & Aftercare

At A&K Tiny Homes, we take pride in building quality tiny homes designed for New Zealand conditions. Every home is carefully constructed, inspected, and tested before leaving our yard in Chertsey, Canterbury.

Our goal is simple: if a genuine issue arises, we will work with you to achieve a fair and practical solution.

Our Commitment

We stand behind the quality of our workmanship and are committed to meeting our obligations under New Zealand consumer law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

We encourage all customers to participate in the final handover and inspection process wherever possible. This allows any questions or concerns to be addressed before the tiny home enters service.

Workmanship Warranty

A&K Tiny Homes provides a 12-month workmanship warranty from the date of delivery.

This warranty covers defects arising from the workmanship and installation carried out by A&K Tiny Homes.

Examples may include:

  • Cabinetry and joinery installation

  • Internal wall and ceiling linings

  • Plumbing installation

  • Electrical installation

  • Doors and windows

  • Internal fixtures and fittings

Where a warranty claim is accepted, we will repair the defect within a reasonable timeframe.

Before Delivery

Each tiny home undergoes a final inspection before leaving our yard.

Customers are encouraged to inspect their tiny home upon delivery and notify us promptly of any concerns. Early communication allows issues to be resolved quickly and efficiently.

Transport and Delivery

Tiny homes are transported on New Zealand roads and may be subject to vibration, movement, and settlement during transit.

Minor adjustments may occasionally be required following delivery. These are generally identified during the delivery and handover process and can often be resolved quickly.

Customers are responsible for ensuring suitable site access is available before delivery.

Appliance and Manufacturer Warranties

Many appliances and components supplied with your tiny home are covered by separate manufacturer warranties.

These may include:

  • Refrigerators

  • Cooktops and ovens

  • Solar equipment

  • Batteries and inverters

  • Hot water systems

  • Diesel heaters

  • Ventilation systems

Warranty claims relating to these products may be handled directly through the manufacturer or their authorised service agents.

Warranty documentation will be supplied where applicable.

Return-to-Base Warranty

Our warranty is primarily provided on a return-to-base basis.

Where assessment or repair work is required, the tiny home may need to be returned to our Chertsey workshop for inspection and repair.

Depending on the nature of the issue, we may also utilise remote troubleshooting, local contractors, manufacturer support, or alternative arrangements where appropriate.

Customer Responsibilities

Owners are responsible for the routine care and maintenance of their tiny home.

This includes:

  • Maintaining adequate ventilation

  • Managing moisture and condensation

  • Cleaning and maintaining surfaces

  • Inspecting and maintaining seals

  • Keeping roofing, gutters, and drainage systems clear

  • Following appliance manufacturers' maintenance recommendations

Failure to maintain the tiny home may affect warranty coverage.

Warranty Exclusions

This warranty does not cover:

  • Normal wear and tear

  • Cosmetic defects reported after acceptance that were visible at delivery

  • Damage caused by misuse, neglect, accidents, abuse, or unauthorised modifications

  • Damage resulting from storms, flooding, earthquakes, fire, vermin, or other events outside our control

  • Repairs carried out without our prior approval

  • Consumable items and routine maintenance

  • Damage caused by inadequate site preparation or unsuitable foundations

Authorisation of Repairs

To ensure warranty claims are assessed fairly and repairs are carried out correctly, customers must contact A&K Tiny Homes and provide us with a reasonable opportunity to inspect, assess, and determine the appropriate remedy before repair work is undertaken.

Except in emergency situations where immediate action is required to prevent injury or significant property damage, repairs, alterations, modifications, or replacement work carried out without the prior written approval of A&K Tiny Homes may not be covered under this warranty.

A&K Tiny Homes will not be responsible for the cost of third-party repairs, materials, call-out fees, travel costs, or other expenses incurred without our prior written authorisation.

Where a warranty issue is accepted, A&K Tiny Homes reserves the right to determine the most appropriate remedy, which may include repair, replacement, reimbursement of approved costs, engagement of a contractor, or return-to-base assessment and repair.

Customers are encouraged to report concerns promptly and provide photographs or supporting information where possible to assist with assessment.

Making a Warranty Claim

If you believe a warranty issue exists, please contact us as soon as practical and provide:

  • Your name and contact details

  • Delivery date or invoice number

  • Description of the issue

  • Photographs where possible

Providing clear information allows us to assess the matter promptly and determine the most appropriate course of action.

Consumer Guarantees Act

Nothing in this warranty limits or excludes any rights available under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or any other applicable New Zealand legislation.
